HUGE FOOD AND BASIC NECESSITIES DISTRIBUTION TO GREEK FAMILIES IN LIMASSOL

A huge food and basic necessities distribution organized by the Social Solidarity Wing of ELAM was successfully completed on Saturday April 27th, 2013 in Limassol. The purpose of the event was to support our compatriots that are suffering under the economic crisis at a time that the State is unable  to offer any assistance. After days of hard work our members managed to collect tons of food and other basic necessities in order to distribute them free of charge to our brothers and sisters in need.

The event was scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Due to the unprecedented numbers of people arriving early, the distribution started earlier. In total more than 250 needy families received assistance. As mentioned above, the distribution of assistance was done exclusively to Greek families of Limassol.
During the event lots of stories were told by the people waiting to receive assistance. These stories illustrate the scale of the problem that exists in our island. More and more Greeks of Cyprus are losing their jobs and are facing survival problems. One of the most heart-breaking stories was the story told by Mrs. Panagiota, this old lady with her meager pension is struggling to make ends meet as she has to assist her daughter and two grandchildren.
The event came to an end at around noon as all distribution was completed. Similar events/distributions of assistance by the Social Solidarity Wing of ELAM are expected to continue all over Free Cyprus. The next food distribution event is scheduled for May 1st, 2013 in the Pafos district.
